Masters and Young Cyclists Feature in National Championship

One of the notable features of the 10th National Road Cycling Championship was the inclusion of masters’ categories for cyclists aged 40โ€“49 and 50 years and above.

The initiative provided experienced cyclists with an opportunity to compete at the national level while encouraging participation across different age groups.

The championship also provided a platform for emerging male and female cyclists to demonstrate their abilities and gain valuable competitive experience. Such events play an important role in identifying promising athletes for future national and international competitions.

HabibMETRO Bank Supports Championship

The Pakistan Cycling Federation acknowledged the support of HabibMETRO Bank, which provided major financial assistance for organizing the championship. Alkhidmat and Bahria Town Karachi also extended their cooperation.

The PCF appreciated the Bahria Town administration for providing facilities and logistical support to participating athletes and officials. The venue and arrangements helped facilitate the successful completion of the three-day competition.

Beyond the sporting action, the championship offered an opportunity to showcase Bahria Town Karachi to athletes, officials and sports enthusiasts from across Pakistan.

The closing ceremony and prize distribution took place on October 11, 2026. Ms. Sharifa Haider Ali, Senior Executive at HabibMETRO Bank, attended as the chief guest and distributed prizes among cyclists who delivered outstanding performances.

Pakistan Plans South Asian Road Cycling Championship for 2027

In a significant development for Pakistani cycling, the President of the Pakistan Cycling Federation announced plans to explore the possibility of hosting international-level cycling competitions at Bahria Town Karachi.

According to the federation, it aims to host the South Asian Road Cycling Championship in Karachi in 2027, subject to the required consultations and approvals from relevant international cycling authorities and other stakeholders.

If approved, the proposed championship could provide Pakistani cyclists with an opportunity to compete against regional athletes on home soil. It could also help promote international sporting activities in Pakistan and strengthen the country’s image as a destination for competitive cycling events.

The PCF will pursue the necessary consultations and approval process with the relevant international organizations and local administration before moving forward with the proposal.

Financial Challenges Continue to Affect National Cycling

Despite successfully organizing the championship, the Pakistan Cycling Federation expressed concern about the financial challenges facing national-level cycling competitions.

According to the federation, the absence of an annual grant or other financial assistance from the Pakistan Sports Board has made it increasingly difficult to organize national events.

Financial support from HabibMETRO Bank and cooperation from other organizations played a significant role in making this year’s championship possible.

The federation reaffirmed its commitment to providing competitive opportunities for athletes and promoting cycling throughout Pakistan despite limited resources.

The PCF also called for greater support from government institutions, private-sector organizations and sports stakeholders to strengthen cycling infrastructure, improve facilities for athletes and help Pakistani cyclists achieve greater success at international competitions.

A Positive Step for Cycling in Pakistan

The successful conclusion of the 10th National Road Cycling Championship marks another important step in promoting competitive cycling in Pakistan.

With participation across multiple categories, support from sponsors and plans to pursue a regional championship in 2027, the event highlighted both the potential of Pakistani cyclists and the need for sustained investment in the sport.

The proposed South Asian Road Cycling Championship could represent a significant opportunity for Pakistan, provided the necessary approvals and arrangements are secured.
